response 1

Killing another person is wrong.

Most people believe that killing another person is wrong. However, under some circumstances people agree that it's "Less wrong." In "Say You're One of Them," Monique's father kills Maman in order to save his children. Monique’s father had a choice of killing his wife or die with his family. The time of that event would be less wrong because, he saved his 2 children’s including himself but, killing a person is wrong in general because, no one should have the right to kill another person. He was forced to kill whether it right or wrong, it was the best option. The situation he was in, were promises and survival thoughts.

His ethnic groups that want to dominate other groups surround Monique’s father as he was forced to kill his beloved wife. The time that this event took place were a time of domination for power and control. Different kinds of race stay with their people and fight together to get rids of different groups that is blamed for the problems, it was a moment in time that killing mean control. although his action were a choice of choosing sides since his wife background were different then his but, he loves his family very much. In some cases it may seen awful but, it is reality, anything could happen.

Do you think the doctor and the man in the story might have experienced similar emotions? Write about emotions that you think each might have experienced.

On last week article that I read, a doctor cuts a woman in half to save her. In this week’s story, a husband kills his wife to save his children. The emotions that I am getting from both stories are similar emotion which is pain, regret, hesitation, shaking feeling, sadness and scared in some ways. The father and the doctor may experience guilt after the decision making of cutting another person.

my parent bedroom.

My parent’s bedroom.

Take note of the everyday details that find their way into the story. Note the following:

Sights: sun has fallen behind the hills, moving clouds, dirty clothes, and blood.

Sounds: door being slam and shouts, groans, breathing, furniture moving, laughing, argument, cursing, cries, sneeze from kitchen, and birds.

Smells: bottle of perfume of Amour Bruxelles, sweat, raw eggs, and abattoir.

Tastes: fish with rice, oatmeal, and saliva.

Textures: dress, pajamas, stick, and bandanna.

Then answer the following question. Which details help you to relate to or identify with the narrator of the story?

The story started off on Saturday evening as the sun has fallen behind the hills; Monique explains she was playing a game of peak-a-boo with her brother jean in her room. The room fills with calm and quietness, even though the wind outside that evening made sounds. During the night Maman enter Monique room and shut the light and silence fills the room once more. The mother slips on a black evening dress with sequins that glitter, and a perfume of Amour ruxelles that papa bought for her. She gives Monique instruction of  “when they ask you,” “say you’re one of them, OK?” and slam the door as she left. Monique then goes on her normal choirs that include feeding her brother with fish with rice and changing his flannel pajamas.
Early in the morning on a Sunday, Monique believes she’s having a dream. She woke up by the sounds of her uncle voice shouting on the door. Monique opened the door as she had been told papa is with him. Her home is being filled with Hutus people and they are wrecking the house, while her parent’s were not home. Monique ended up beaten and left to wait for her parent to return.
Her parent’s had appear as; Monique and her bother Jean were excited to see them. Her parent argues about what is happening and they are both scared and frighten, they are shaking in fear.  Monique uncle shows up with the crew and offer a deal to papa about killing the wife, if not everyone shall be killed in the family of hers. Maman made papa promise to do whatever to keep the children alive even killing her, because she loves them a lots. Papa is given a machete and he killed his wife and the uncle took papa away with him and left the children.

Which details help you to relate to or identify with the narrator of the story?
I could relate to family feeling on how much they loved each other and would do anything for each other. The father killed his wife, because for the children sake to live and the promise were kept promised.

9/11

In the event of 9/11 everyone had their own story to tell or be heard. Rieckhoff writes about a dramatic rescue attempt that he witnessed in the aftermath of 9/11, a doctor is forced to make a difficult decision about how to save a woman.  The doctor decided to try and rescue the women with anything. I agree with his decision making it is the right thing to do.

Fireman, doctor, cop and Human are a lot like soldiers when faced with a decision under pressure. Those days were days without long thinking it was no time to think about the next minute every single second count. I myself had experienced the pressure of decision making, I told myself I would take a bullet for anyone that I care about get shot.  The woman that is stuck beneath a mammoth block of concrete could have been anyone.  There were thousands of people worked in the tower. The peoples outside of the building were in tears not, because their loves one is in the building, but the fact that life is precious and no one should witness 9/11.

question :Why do you think widespread violence like war and genocide happen?

In many regions in the world there is all type of different ethnic groups and cultural belief.  The cause of widespread violence like war and genocide happened, because of many reasons. War and genocide could start anytime, if the community wants changes, such as a better economic system or health care if they are not getting it. Food, water, coal, and other main resources are limited; this could lead to a problem of chaos. Another reason is a single disagreement or disapproval of one ethnic group. In the end, members of different race believe if the other group no longer existed, the problem that would be solved and the hatred and grudge would be lift.
