The story started off on Saturday evening as the sun has fallen behind the hills; Monique explains she was playing a game of peak-a-boo with her brother jean in her room. The room fills with calm and quietness, even though the wind outside that evening made sounds. During the night Maman enter Monique room and shut the light and silence fills the room once more. The mother slips on a black evening dress with sequins that glitter, and a perfume of Amour ruxelles that papa bought for her. She gives Monique instruction of  “when they ask you,” “say you’re one of them, OK?” and slam the door as she left. Monique then goes on her normal choirs that include feeding her brother with fish with rice and changing his flannel pajamas.

            Early in the morning on a Sunday, Monique believes she’s having a dream. She woke up by the sounds of her uncle voice shouting on the door. Monique opened the door as she had been told papa is with him. Her home is being filled with Hutus people and they are wrecking the house, while her parent’s were not home. Monique ended up beaten and left to wait for her parent to return.

            Her parent’s had appear as; Monique and her bother Jean were excited to see them. Her parent argues about what is happening and they are both scared and frighten, they are shaking in fear.  Monique uncle shows up with the crew and offer a deal to papa about killing the wife, if not everyone shall be killed in the family of hers. Maman made papa promise to do whatever to keep the children alive even killing her, because she loves them a lots. Papa is given a machete and he killed his wife and the uncle took papa away with him and left the children.

Which details help you to relate to or identify with the narrator of the story?

I could relate to family feeling on how much they loved each other and would do anything for each other. The father killed his wife, because for the children sake to live and the promise were kept promised.
